I wanted to know if some could tell me what unix commands to use to copy a oracle 8i database from a Sun system in a compressed format over to my NT box. I want to later use this compressed database file to import on a Windows 2000 Advanced server running Oracle 8i. I seen this done this a year ago but I forgot what the DBA did.

Just to let you know my Sun System is located at a remote Site and I will be copying this compress database
over a 256k frame relay line. I know it going to take forever to do it . I will be connected to the Sun system
    Via telnet session

One last thing will this file keep all of the triggers and procedures in tact and what oracle tool should I use
to impport this file into Oracle 8i on Win2k

    Thanks everybody

    Hi,

You will not be able to just copy the datfiles over to another platform. What you'll have to do is creating an export file from the source database and reimport that into a new database on the new platform.
