Question on ASM Views.
Hi DBA's,
Is it possible to view the V$ asm views when the database is down.If Yes where it is getting the information. Please correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks/Gopu

Have you tried it? V$asm views, as far as I know, are not fixed views, thus the +ASM database needs to be running for you to query these views.

Gandolf,
My Question is When my database is down, I am able to query V$Views from +ASM Instance. As our +ASM is not a database, i would like to know , where the information of V$ views of +ASM is kept.
thanks

I'll second that!!!
I thought he was talking about connecting to +ASM using SQL Plus when the database is in startup nomount mode. It's not a traditional database in the it doesn't have everything that a traditional Oracle database has. But technically it is a database.

ASM functionality is controlled by an ASM instance and it is not a full database instance, just the memory structures.
My Doubt here is very clear, ASM information can be queried from diff V$ASM_% views. Whether those information can be queried from ASM Instance or a dependent database ? I dont have a test database here to do some exp

I think it depends, whether they are queried from the ASM instance, or a dependant database instance.
