using RMAN in conjunction with VSS writer for backup / recovery

    Hello ,

Wanted to know if there is an Interopearability between RMAN and VSS snapshot backup / restore?

As far as RMAN backup is concerned , we can have an INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 RMAN backup on the VSS snapshot backup, but did not come across the reverse case and what about restores??

If somebody can give some valuable information in this regard, it will be great.

    Thanks & Regards,

VSS also takes block level backup of file system. I think following doc will be helpful to you.http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/...0/rcmbckba.htm.

using RMAN in conjunction with VSS writer for backup / recovery

    Hi Gitesh,

Thanks for reply and sorry for late reply by me.
Actually the link you have given is useful, but what I really need to know is, is it possible to have a vss snapshot backup on the top of an RMAN backup. Because the link you mentioned says that we can have an incremental level 1 backup on the vss snapshot backup.

Thus need to know if interoperability exists or not.

Also is it possible to have mixed backups meaning vss snapshot backups and rman backups. Whenever we take snapshot backup, is it updated in the control file??
These questions are not answered, I googled a lot, even OTN did not help.

    Thanks in advance!
    Looking forward for these inputs!
