    Doubst to install 11g RAC & ASM

    Hi everybody;

    I need to install oracle 11G RAC with ASM (2 nodes), but I have some doubts.
    First, In the past I installed oracle 9i on Windows NT, and Oracle 10g in Solaris 10, but these versions were not RAC, and not ASM.

    Now I have an IMB server, with OS AIX 5.3, Oracle 10G, RAC (2 nodes) & ASM.

    These are the databases in Oracle 10G RAC with ASM.

    /opt/oracle/admin
    $ ls -ltr
    total 8
    drwxr-x--- 7 oracle dba 256 Jul 06 2008 +ASM
    drwx------ 10 oracle dba 256 Jul 09 2008 MASTABPD
    drwx------ 10 oracle dba 256 Jul 09 2008 MASTAMPD
    drwx------ 11 oracle dba 4096 Aug 26 2008 MASTALPD

    This is the configuration for each:

    GROUP_NAME SECTOR_SIZE BLOCK_SIZE ALLOCATION_UNIT_SIZE STATE TYPE TOTAL_MB USED_MB PCT_USED
    ------------------------------ ----------- ---------- -------------------- ----------- ------ ---------- ---------- ----------
    DG_AM_ASM 512 4096 1048576 CONNECTED EXTERN 204800 73739 36.01
    DG_AL_ASM 512 4096 1048576 MOUNTED EXTERN 153600 7257 4.72
    DG_AB_ASM 512 4096 1048576 MOUNTED EXTERN 179200 52666 29.39

    What I is supposed to do, is to remove physically
    MASTABPD and MASTAMPD. This database (MASTALPD) remain in 10G RAC with ASM.

    Then, I got to install Oracle 11g RAC with ASM on the same server for a new database to replace these: MASTABPD and MASTAMPD.

    I was viewing this document http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E...e17222/toc.htm, but I realized that I'm not going to upgrade
    I want to do is a new installation of Oracle 11g RAC with ASM.

    My questions are, once I remove these two databases, space (ALLOCATION_UNIT_SIZE) is released? I suppose, yes, but can I reuse that space if
    I created a new DB in Oracle 11G with ASM?

    For ASM, Do I have to do a new installation for ASM?
    In this case, May I have the two installations (oracle 10G and 11G, with RAC and ASM at the same server?
    Could this represent some conflict o problem?

    Honestly, this will be my first installation of Oracle RAC with ASM, and I have a lot of doubts about to install the new version in the same server,
    specifically I have my concern about ASM.

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards

    PD. It's my first post, sorry if I forgot something, if so, please let me know in order I can fix it.

    you can't use the same server if there is any instance currently running (ASM & DB). Also only one ASM instance should be there on each server.

    In your case, you need to do fresh RAC installation on new servers.

    Thanks,

    Try hard to get what you like OR you will be forced to like what you get.
