I am new to Grid Control and Oracle Agent. Every night, my oracle agent 's resident memory will jump from 50Mb to above 600Mb for several hours, then it will return to about 50Mb again. Is there any way that I can find out why the agent 's resident memory would pump up so much during that period of time?

You 're right! There is backup job during that time frame. Why would the backup job cause the agent 's resident memory to pump up so much? Is there any configuration that I can do?

I've seen that before Chris. Since agent memory utilization goes back to normal after backup is done there is nothing to be worry about.
I remember finetuning OEM alert so not to create an alert for this particular case.
