Most of the shops don't prefer to apply CPU patches unless until they hit a bug or any other ORA-600 kind of issues. However, some shops regularly apply the CPU patches every quarter with proper testing in development and qa environments.

opatch is the utility used to apply the patches in Oracle.

    Thanks,

the impact will be like one CPU patch may lead to other issue, application performance may effect etc.

As I said earlier, If you have production like other environment (including same Oracle & OS patch numbers) then you can test the application by applying new CPU patch. If every thing is normal after testing then you can apply the patch in production.

Please read the patch document carefully which comes along with patch download.

    Thanks,
    Vijay Tummala
