    Restore ASM database to UFS

I've recently migrated a database from UFS to ASM raw using RMAN's "backup as copy database format '+DATA';" and "switch database to copy;".

We plan to perform RMAN backups of this ASM raw database to backupsets on UFS, then archive to tape.

Is there a way to take UFS RMAN backupsets of an ASM raw database and restore them to a UFS database or would the only option to clone an ASM database to UFS using backupsets be restoring the ASM raw database and using the DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER utility to convert the db files?

why do you need to restore in to UFS database every time you take backup?? you can mount the UFS file system in database server, configure RMAN paramter, and take the backup into that file system and from there move to tape.

    Thanks,

Try hard to get what you like OR you will be forced to like what you get.

It's a different environment. We would not be restoring to UFS from tape after every backup. It's more like once a week we'll propagate databases on various other servers that are all UFS (for the time being) and the idea is we want our baseline db server RAW with ASM, but several other servers will still be UFS until they get converted (which may not happen).

So our master db is raw and that needs to be cloned, copied, rman restored, etc to other servers with UFS.
