    recover database from backup

This is just for my information. I can't test it. May be somebody out there has come across this. During system backup, database is still up. If I restore all files to other server, can I still open the database? Do I need to recover?

What do you mean by system backup? Taking a backup of the OS? What is not clear about the concepts in Backup and Recovery Guide? You have a PC, why can't you test this?
