Hi:
I had installed the client. Then I tried to install the server on the same NT
box. During the installtion I got following error
Error in writing to file
d:\oracle\ora81\bin\orancrypt8.dll
then I clicked on "cancel" and stopped installing this product.
Before I got this error I was able to install 24%.
Also, listerner.ora file was empty so I copied the file from another NT
machine and made modification.
When I tried to connect from client, I am getting "no listener" error.
What is the solution to resolve this problem?
Thanks for your help in advance.

You probably haven't completed the install. When you install on NT, make sure all Oracle services are shutdown before you start.

I am not familiar with NT. In unix you shut down the listerner by lsnrctl stop and
login as connect internal (sys) from sql or svrmgrl and shutdown.
In NT what are the name of the services?
As far as shutting down the services I need to go to control panel -> services and click on the
service which I need to shutdown. correct??
Thanks.

You can either go into the control panel or use lsnrctl to stop the listener.

Any other oracle service do I to shutdown.

Are you trying to install Oracle 8i ?
All the Oracle services in NT start with the word "Oracle" so it should be easy to find them.
Stop ALL the Oracle services.
Also you mentioned that you have installed Oracle client on that PC. Make sure that you are not running any Oracle client applications (so that none of the files in \oracle\ora81\bin are in use)
