I am trying to decide which area to concentrate in. Which area is more exiciting and rewarding - APPS or Development? Personally I feel APPS might get bored after a implementation because all left are tuning, patching and upgrading. On the other hand, development can be more rewarding and I can move into an architect role. Any comments?

First, I suggest you learn how to spell architect if you want to be one.
Which direction you want to lead your career depends on your personal preferences. If you are more attracted to the business side of your organization, than being an Apps DBA might be up your alley. However, if you enjoy building systems from the ground up, an architect may be the way to go. Either way, you will be challenged professionally.
