advantages and disadvantages of having broker dataguard

    Hello all,

The dataguard can work perfectly without the broker, am I right?

Do you recommend to use the broker in the Dataguard solution?

    Thank you

    Yes

When disaster strikes the last thing that you would want to do is start typing cryptic commands from sqlplus. With dataguard its very simple to do many of the same commands.

And dataguard broker if i am not mistaken does not have additional charge.

    regards

    Hi Hrishy,

First of all, thank you for the reply.

I've seen that the broker can be sometimes hang. Could that affect to the Dataguard system?

    Regards

Yes. But if you intend using the Enterprise Manager to monitor/maintain the Standby environment you will need to have the Broker configured.

Do you recommend to use the broker in the Dataguard solution?
Depends what your work style is. I have been maintaining multiple Standby environments without the Brokers configured. I have scripted most of my commands.

    Hope this helps,
    Chintz
