    Rman cycle

I have a backup disk 120GB in size
My full backup takes up 60GB+ leaving 55GB free.

If i have a redundancy of 1 day what kind of cycle should i have so i dont run out of disk space?

1 Full backup then incrementals or a mix of cumulatives?

Your options depend on the version of Oracle. If you are running Oracle 11g, you can turn on block change tracking, which will make the incremental backups smaller and make it easier to fit one full backup and 6 incremental backups on disk for a week.

You might want to look into some network attached storage though. The prices of storage are really coming down.

Oracle 9 so no compression etc.

We cant increase the size of the filesystems at the moment.

    So recommendations?

1 full a week and incrementals?

    Hi

We can only give you very genral advise. The sizing depends also on your Recovery time objective you should test that

    It depends on

    a)Size of the incremental backups
b)how long does it take for you to recover the full backup by applying the incrementals from other days in case you need to restore.

You need to test it play around with it and then document your strategy.

You could run a gzip on the backups after the backup script is finished. This would allow you to shrink the size of your backup. However, you need to keep 60GB free on the drive so that you can keep doing backups.
