Hot backup in 8i
Hi all,
I have couple of doubts regarding backup...
1) Is there any hot backup concept in oracle 8i. if yes then there also we are using same command alter tablespace begin/end backup or any other command...?
2) Is there any incremental hot backup concept without using RMAN in any version...I got this ques during one intw and interviewer told it is there
if it is not there then how we will take backup of a DB having 1TB if backup is scheduled every day...?
Thanks,
tmg

Do you know what an incremental backup is?
If yes, please describe it in just one paragraph.

yes sure. I have a DB with size 100gb . I took full backup and today after the transaction peak time the db size is 120gb.Instead of taking complte 120gb we can go for 20 gb that is incremental backup as per my knowledge. Now this can be done with RMAN but I wannt to know how we will do this withot RMAN and those commands.

Wrong. An incremental backup would analyze each datablock in every single datafile and backup only the data blocks that have changed since the last backup.
Correct. You can do it with RMAN.
