    Database staffing ratio

I apologize if this is the wrong group to put this question.

I am looking for a formula to calculate the number of DBA's needed to support an Oracle database. Something that I can plug the number of databases we have, the size of the databases and it will calculate the number of DBA's needed to support them.

    Thanks.

    Scott

I would say the Pi/square root of 2.

Although I guess I would need to know something about the application that uses your database, uptime requirements, complexity of your environment, budget...

I saw one one time from the Gartner group but I can't seem to find it again. It was pretty slick. You inputted some information such as # of dbs, # of servers, db sizes, etc. and it calculated the number of resources needed to support the databases.

size of database is in no way related to how much support is required

Both pi and the square root of two are irrational numbers.
Therefore the answer is an irrational number between 1 and 2.
