    AIX Server upgrade

    We have migrated the Oracle 10g instance from an old AIX server ( 1Gb of SGA, lcpu=8) and to a new AIX server with 6Gb SGA and Lcpu=16. But there is no gain in the performance.

    Any parameters that we need to look at?

    Too little yet confusing information for a useful answer.

    SGA refers to Oracle allocated memory, not to AIX memory.
    lcpu refers to logical CPUs which doesn't mean box has 16 cores.

    What can you see in statspack reports?

    Thanks for the reply.

    Old server has :

    Physical Mem= 8 Gb
    Ent = 3.0
    lcpu =8
    Oracle SGA=1Gb

    New Server :

    Physical Mem= 12 Gb
    Ent = 2.6
    lcpu =16
    Oracle SGA=6Gb

    The instance migrated and the package ran slower than in the new server. We tried to optimize the SGA by setting it in 1.5Gb, and found that it ran almost the same as in old server. Users are frustrated about spending premium cost and receive no gain.

    How can we benefit from the new server?

    That's a question you have to ask to whoever designed the new solution.

    I assume somebody has detected some kind of bottleneck in the old configuration then designed a new configuration to address such issues.

    Are you running the same Oracle version in both environments? same patch level?

    How explain plans compare in between old and new environments?

    Have you traced a troubled query in both environments and compared wait events?

    Are you running the same Oracle version in both environments? same patch level? >>>> yes. 10.2.04. Actually, we did a cold backup at the old server and copied across to the new server with same file system setup.

    >>> We identified two sql statement and run the explain plan. The cost is small and almost the same

    Have you traced a troubled query in both environments and compared wait events? >>>> compare the AWR report.
