    Enterprise Manager 10g console

    Greetings,

I am trying to run a backup using enterprise manager console. It tells me to use enterprise manager 10g console for the same. When I click on the hyper link on the enterprise manager console main screen, it tries to open the following URL http://.catusp.local/em. The error on that screen is listed below - do I need to install something else. Any guidence will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

The error on that screen says:
    Failed to Connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at ssadam.catusp.local.

Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

    * Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

    Cool Config?

It seems like a configuration issue, the "http://.catusp.local/em" address is incorrect, it should actually look like this: "https://ssadam.catsup.local:1159/em/console/logon/logon"

If your OS is WinDoze, I don't do WinDoze, but the following might help:

On a terminal (command) window check if the 10g console is up:

    emctl status dbconsole

    And post the results.

    Thanks LKBrwn_DBA.

Here is the results from running the command. Also tried the URL you listed. I think may not have installed the Oracle Enterprise manager properly on my windows machine.

The database is on a unix machine (sun solaris) and I am trying to administer it from my windows machine. Just got back into Database Admin responsibilites so help is appreciated.

    Cool EM or not EM?

If the database is on Unix (or any another host), you need to install/configure the EM console at the source server!!!

You can administer the database from any other server because EM console is web based (web browser).

Go to the db server and execute these commands:

    emctl status dbconsole

If EM is not installed/configured, then do this:

emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create

Any of the above commands will display the correct URL.

To start/stop the EM console use these:

    emctl start dbconsole
    emctl stop dbconsole

PS: The Oracle client sofware CD (or download) has a WinDoze client version of the EM db console, but it does not have all the functionality of the web-based EM.
