Did you check alert.log file.
May be redo tablespace is full.
May be a disk space issue.

This is a pretty handy piece of information you forgot to share before; please follow Malay suggestions and be sure you have free disk space on any and all places Oracle may want to write -that means even alertlog and listener logs, etc.
