I have joined as an Oracle DBA in a firm recently.
I have been assigned with a task to order new servers for Oracle 10g upgrade.
Can someone guide me as to what all I need to check before making my recommendations.
I am pretty new to Hardware stuff so will appreciate if you can provide me some links with more details.
This is a very broad question, impossible to answer in detail.
You have to put together a technology refresh project including: a) where you are now, b) where business wants to get; c) capacity planning; d) constraints and assumptions including impact on other areas, e) vendor's quotes, f) ROI analysis, g) your recommendation and, h) a high-level project plan.
