Verify success of database backup
Hi,
I am using oracle 10.2.0.1.0 on my server. I am taking daily export backup on HP-UX. I do have log file through which i can able to verify the success of the export database backup.
Is there any dynamic performance view available in oracle to verify the success of the export database backup.
Thanks

no, you need to test out your backusps by restoring them
and an export isnt a backup

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
can you please clarify "an export isnt a backup"
Thanks

Hi
With export you cannot recover to the point of failure, you cannot recover if you lose a datafile, you must recreate the whole database and only able to recover until last export.
Therefore export is not a valid backup strategy, it is used to support backkup strategy, useful to recover static tables or stored programs

Hi Pando,
Would like to clarify on ething.
Export is also a form of backup.
There are two kinds of backup
1)Logical Backups
Example:Export. This can be used when there are logical corruptions only.
2)Physical Backup
Ex:All physical backups which we take using RMAN or user managed backups. These backups are used for recovery.
Correct me if i am wrong.

export is not a backup - never will be
you cant recover using it
export arent only useful for moving data between databases and static tables

-
exports arent backups - anyone who things they are - are wrong

Hi Dave -
Interesting ! Oracle says exports are " LOGICAL Backups " but you are not accepting it.
I know one can not do any kind of recovery using the so called logical backups. Does it the only reason you are saying exports are not (logical) backups?
Appreciate your clarification.

Try hard to get what you like OR you will be forced to like what you get.
