ORA-06502: PL/SQL: character string buffer too small

    All,
I changed some datatypes from varchar2 to CLOB. Now a function throws up this error

ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small

I have tried high settings for
    dbms_output.enable( 2000000)
    serverpout
    arraysize
    longchunksize etc to no avail.

I understand there is a backend procedure (DBMS_?) that could help with this?

    Thanks for suggestions

I'm not totally following you but, are you referring to DBMS_LOB?

The error could be caused by nearly anything. Perhaps if you posted your code with the actual error stack, someone can help you with the error.

Probably you have a varchar2 in the code that is too small. The error stack should give you a line number which should point to the variable that is causing the error.

Thanks fellows. I stumbled over this and forwarded to the developer. It closely mirrors what his problem is...
