    ORA-12154 TNS:could not resolve service name

    but the it is listed in tnsnames.ora fine. I can directly go to server with putty and can run everything but i cannot connect with OEM.

    The DB is on Sun(solaris) and Oracle 9i.

    no its not in the tnsnames file as the client cannot resolve it - sort out the tns entry

    This is the connection string in tnsnames.ora:

    ORANEW =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Servername)(PORT = 3800))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORATEST)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    )
    )

    HOST = Servername
    have you modified this before paste? Do tnsping to ORANEW and paste the output.

    Thanks,
    Vijay Tummala

    Is the listener up on the remote host?

    Also, replace the with IP address and check.

    Thanks,
    Vijay Tummala
