    Who's on call?

In our shop, every DBA gets all the alerts for all databases and the primary DBA for the db handles the alert and coordinates out-of-touch time with the backup DBA.

We're considering an on-call approach and I'd like to get your thoughts

We are a bit too big for that, you would be innondated with e-mail alerts if you recieved them from all database servers.
We rotate a primary and secondary pager here between about 25 DBA's.
We have scripts to monitor archiving, backups, alert logs, tablespace thresholds, ect..

Being on call can truly suck, especially on an active weekend.

How many DBA's do you have?
Have you thought about guidelines and standards, what is pageable and what is not?
Do all boxes need to be monitored?
What will be the response time?
Do you have a laptop to rotate for the on call person or do you all have laptops?
I remember when this place was cool.
