    AUTHENTICATED in oracle 10g2 . is it role or privilage??? what does it?

    I recently come to know that earlier DBA has granted AUTHENTICATED (role?? or privileage??) to one of the user in oracle 10g2. could you provide some information on this what exactly AUTHENTICATED is and its functionality..

    no such role privelege as authenticated

    SQL> grant AUTHENTICATEDUSER, CONNECT to scott;

    Grant succeeded.

    SQL>

    please can one tell us what AUTHENTICATEDUSER is all about?. as per my job, i need to document this why its been granted by earlier DBA.

    would help if you got the name right first time - it is used for DBUriServlet Security
