hostname similar for 2 servers
Hi all,
Do I get error if I Install Oracle 10g on both 2 Linux servers with the following /etc/hosts
server1 > 119.111.9.1 orasvr1.abc.com.ph orasvr1
server2 > 119.111.9.2 orasvr1.abc.com.ph orasvr1
The aliases are the same but the IPs are not
Thanks a lot

You got a duplicate name on the network, don't you?
Next time Dave tells you it is not a good idea to jump from the bridge with your hands tied on your back... trust him and don't do it.

I thought only the IP get duplicate error, the server2 will not be used anyway just a backup incase server1 fails
-
then server 2 has a different name doesnt it
You probably want an active passive IP cluster set up where the OS deals with if one machine is down
-
ok thank you all I thought I can invent a hybrid RAC
-
Dear Reeshe,
RAC is based on concept of failover of VIP (Virtual IP's) from the failing node to the other node in Cluster.
