Why does the DB abort after startup
Hi all,
On one of my (oracle 9i) databases I have had an error during startup after the server was halted for a memory upgrade. It begins startup and everything looks fine. Then after it has completed "ALTER DATABASE OPEN" the alertlog says "Shutting Down Instance (abort)"
After this event Oracle tried to start the database again, but it wouldnt mount and had te be mounted manualy.
Why would it do something weird like this?
Thanks,
bibbib

why was the instance aborted
-
the server had to be taken down to install extra memory. What I did was this:
I took the database down by means of a script that does that every night to perform a cold backup.
After it was taken down I switched my IBM p-Series to halt mode using the AIX command "shutdown -h now"
then powercord was removed from mains and memory installed.
after installation of memory server was powered up again
databases were brought back up with help of another script we use after the backup.
from the 10 databases on that system 9 started normaly, one of them displayed the mentioned error in its alert log. from the remainder of the log i can read that listener for this database didnt start either.

Thats what I'm asking. Why would a database abort after starting up for no appearant reason. All I did was shut down the server (p-Series on AIX) in a tidy way, install memory and start up again.

Do you see any memory related error message in the UNIX log?

Please post relevant section of the Alert Log.
