Thread: ORA-12560

    Hi All,

    Can anyone explain this error. I went into the SVRMGRL but before I logged in to the system I received an error: ORA-12560: TNS:protocl adapter error.

    I went on and logged in without problems after that.

    were you connecting to a remote db ? Was it on NT ?
    If you set the oracle_sid on the OS prompt and the database service is not running on that machine (it's running on the remote server) then you may get this error.

    Thanks for the reply. Yes I'm running on WINNT but not connecting to a remote server. The database is running on the same machine.

    By the way, why should it happen if I'm connecting to a remote server and how can it be rectified if it occurs?
