Job Description:

The Oracle DBA will be part of a team responsible for all functions associated with the implementation, operation, logical database functions, and maintenance of Oracle patch, development, integration, training and production databases for multiple applications.

This position will play a key role in supporting a fast paced development environment.

The responsibilities include Oracle server installation, building, and tuning databases, creating databases and application objects, backup and recovery procedures and assistance to software development staff.

The individual should be technically adept and possess mature and interpersonal skills.

Oracle Certified DBA preferred.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following but are not limited to…

Oracle Database Administrator

• Administer development, integration, training, patching and production databases on IBM mid-range Oracle 9i and 10G platforms
• Oracle server installation administration on Unix and Windows platforms
• Search, review, apply and test modifications to all databases
• Manage storage requirements for databases-related components – capacity planning with UNIX Administrator
• Administer and maintain procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of all databases
• Conduct systematic performance tuning including database server tuning, database related component tuning
• Ability to monitor and correct Concurrent Manager issues
• Pro-actively automate routine DBA tasks
• Maintain detailed documentation of database standards and procedures

• Understanding of Oracle release 11i ERP, BIS, EDW, MLS & Localizations on WINDOWS, TRU64, AIX and LINUX application server platform

Logical Database Roles
• Provide the logical database support required by the Software Maintenance processes and functions. The Logical Database Administration process includes the following activities:

• Designing and implementing database schema
• Maintaining design consistency across databases associated with different software and identifying data redundancies
• Designing and creating entity relationship diagrams
• Maintaining database schema
• Maintaining entity relationship diagrams
• Updating existing documentation to document all changes to database schemas

Development Team Support

• Rebuild / Refresh development, integration, training, patching databases for developers and end-users upon scheduled requests
• Review, recommend, test, and implement physical data model changes
• Provide support outside regular business hours on a scheduled basis
• Provide technical assistance to software development and support staff for both customized and packaged applications
• Analyze performance issues and recommend solutions


Qualifications / Accountabilities

• Minimum 3 years experience as an Oracle DBA required – 5 years preferred

• Practiced in and Competent with:
o Monitoring and tuning database resources and activity including Oracle 9i and 10G
o Creating and maintaining databases and schemas
o Creating and maintaining database login IDs
o Performing Oracle version upgrades and patch installs
o Initiating and monitoring exports / imports
o Performing database recoveries
o Troubleshooting performance and Oracle networking issues
o UNIX commands and scripting techniques
o MS tools such as Outlook, and Word, and Excel, and PowerPoint
o Oracle Grid Control
o CRON
o Oracle Application Server (OAS)
o Oracle applications – Applications DBA
o Linux Web Forms Servers using Big IP
o Linux Operating System
o Cost based optimization
o Snapshots and materialized views
o Standard Oracle tools such as but not limited to Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Grid Control, and SQL *Plus

• Qualifications:
o Knowledge of the ITIL processes for managing IT services is an asset
o Proficient in communicating directly with customers on a daily basis, must have excellent technical and non-technical communications skills
o Well practiced with all types of verbal and written communications with exceptional communication skills for listening.
o Must be willing to assume 24x7 on-call role (rotating schedule)
o Strong interpersonal skills
o Strong TEAM Working skills
o Must be able to work effectively with multiple teams at once
o Must thrive in a fast-paced, time compressed, and dynamic environment
o Bachelors degree in computers, information systems or a related field
o 3- 5 years of Oracle DBA experience a must
o Solid skills and discipline for Change Management practices and processes
o Solid discipline providing end-users timely updates on their problems

The US Tier 1 Team is a leveraged organization and many of our members support multiple client projects. These client contracts may require background checks for all members working within the client environment. Additionally, some require screening above and beyond what is required as standard screening for CGI employment in the US; to include, but not limited to, additional criminal history, drug screening and credit reporting in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. These background checks are client specific and in most cases are not transferable from one client account to the next. In order to meet the requirements of a leveraged organization, members of the US Tier 1 team may be required to complete multiple background checks during their career at CGI. All new hires into the US Tier 1 team will be required to complete client background check requests within the timeframe stated in the client contract, as a condition of employment with CGI.
