Summary of DBA responsibilities -

Support Oracle Versions: 8.1, 9.2, 10.2
Server OS: HPUX 11, Windows 2003 Server, Red Hat Linux 3, Red Hat Linux 4

Install, upgrade and maintain database software.
Create appropriate database and database structures based on application usage.
Define and implement appropriate utilities to monitor database functions and activity.
Provide scripts to simplify recurring activities diagnose problems and remediate problems when they occur.
Implement automated notification via email and/or pager when conditions require immediate attention.
Recommend system resource changes as needed and to accommodate future growth.
Work with database management software to determine ways to organize and store data for peak performance and system resource utilization.
Coordinate database changes with various team leads.
Prepare a well defined backup and recovery strategy for the database in the event of database failure.
Implement automated maintenance of the generated log files including archival, compression and eventual expiration of obsolete logs and data files.
Stay informed of database software patches for bug fixes and recommended upgrades. Recommend implementation of patches when appropriate.
Provide support for database networking, monitoring and database tuning for peak performance.
Design and implement appropriate system security functions, including user id maintenance, password complexity and aging, and database user activity auditing.
Automate startup and shutdown of database server processes.
Contact vendor support for technical assistance when appropriate.
Complete and maintain a defined set of documentation for each primary responsibility environment.
Full analysis of each production database performance monthly.
Provided monthly space/memory analysis for capacity planning.
