    Oracle9i Repository

    Hello,

I performed a new oracle 9i installation today and I chose the "custom" installation. In one of the steps during the installation, I was asked by the software whether or not the database will "use an existing repository". As I had no idea what a repository was, I chose the second option which is "creating a new repository". At the end of the installation, while configuring the Entreprise Manager Console, I realized that a database was being created with a tablespace of its own and a "repository user", yet I had not chosen to create a database.
Can anyone tell me in simple words what a repository is? What is its use? Is it different from the rman catalog? Is it a database?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Yeah Malay indeed it is, I could see it...but what's its use? I mean, I can just drop it without negatively affecting my system? That option hadn't showed up when I performed the first install.

If you don't need it then you can drop the database.
