    Error Oracle code=1017

    Hi, I need help, i'm install oracle 9i and create a database, i want call this database with other software, but appears this error

    Oracle code=1017 Unable to connect to this database engine.
    Unable to retrieve the list of services defined in the database
    .

    and the other software will be what as that isnt an oracle error?

    Yes appears error

    I verify the code error in the other application and the definition this is unknow

    Can you ping the target database box from the client box?
    Can you tnsping the target Oracle instance from the client box?

    do you not think it might help to mention the name of the application?
    might help to try other tools to connect to the database?
    might help to understand what your application is trying to do?

    I can connect

    I can connect to the database with ODBC, Enterprise manager console from oracle, sql plus.

    yet you still dont say what the application is, what it is trying to do - as this is nothing to do with an oracle database, might delete it
