Yes, i clicked next & it asked me 2 select a candidate disk; i was thinking that since it was showing a graded member disk rather than a candidate, this tells me the disk or might be the header is reading something, b/c the disk 1st has 2 be a candidate be4 becoming a member after checking.
I'll ask my UNIX admin 2 reformat this device & take off whatever info might be on the header, whilst awaiting a response from Oracle.

Hi,
The issue was resolved by the ff command provided by oracle to clear the disk header wh' was still reading info from a prior install.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ora_db_hd1_35G bs=8192 count=12800 (ora_db_hd1_35G is the device name)
