find / -name 'svrmgrl' -print and see you can find it somewhere.
I have 817 on Solaris 7 at the following location.
$O_H/bin
Its "svrmgrl"

Thanks, sreddy.
I did find the srvmgrl folder under $ORACLE_HOME/bin, but it has 0 bytes. Does it mean server manager did not get installed? I did a "typical" installation.

try using unix find command to find 'svrmgrl'. it should be there. If its not, there must be a problem with your installation.
Worst, Its desupported with 817 on Solaris 8.
This should fall under either of the above...

Sometimes for some reason I got no one product has been installed after installation. Just remove everything from your $ORACLE_HOME directory and install all the products again. I got this errors on SUN Solaris (Oracle 8.1.6) and IBM IAX (Oracle 8.1.6).

I think the server manager component was not installed even I did a "typical" installation.
While reinstalling the oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris 8, I got the meaasge: unable to find make utility in location: /usr/ccs/bin/make.
Question: what is the use of the make utility? where can i get a copy and so that I can cp to the directory?
Thanks,
SY

Check your oracle user profile has path set to
/usr/ccs/bin/
Seems it couldn't find the utility in the path to relink and generate the executables. talk to server admin to find and see the path has been changed for make utility on solaris8.
For more info on make type in at prompt:
$man make
<font face="courier">
DESCRIPTION
The make utility executes a list of shell commands associ-
ated with each target, typically to create or update a file
of the same name. makefile contains entries that describe
how to bring a target up to date with respect to those on
which it depends, which are called dependencies. Since each
dependency is a target, it may have dependencies of its own.
Targets, dependencies, and sub-dependencies comprise a tree
structure that make traces when deciding whether or not to
rebuild a target.
