enterprise manager client for 11G

Oracle enterprise manager client for 11G. Downloaded but don't see how to connect to ANY database. Does not resemble Oracle 10.2 client. How do you get the same functionality in 11G client that you have in 10G???

Never heard of that.
If you mean the Java interface used in 9i and still supported in 10g, it is probably deprecated in 11g

Yes, I mean enterprise Manager JAVA console, which lets you manage db's, instances, etc. What takes its place in 11G CLIENT, i DON'T SEE IT.

YOU DONT SEE IT hmm, try reading the manuals and learn about dbconsole which has been there since 10g

downloading 10g client(java) you're connecting to 8i,9i,10g databases in a minute. With 11Gclient,dbconsole, web based, running on XP how does one

POINT youre browser at WHAT?

At your database server.
At the server issue
emctl status dbconsole

and you should see where to point the browser

Have 400 databases of every vintage from 8-9-10, means you have to
fire up dbconsole on each and every one, some of the old ones don't have it.
Net result, need ALL your instances to be up there in currency for them to be monitored with 11G, unlike the 10G client. Seems that function has been lost.

Net result, first see what Oracle offers for your case, before complaining.

I know Grid -- A big effort, no replacement for the simplicity and ease of the 10G JAVA client software.
By the way, not complaining, just stating fact.

Man, never say "I KNOW". The big effort really pays back when you have 400 databases, trust me.
Last month I attended the local Oracle user group event and the head DBA of one of our telecoms said "We use Grid Control since 2 years now, and I cannot imagine how did we lived without it"
