    hi navneeth,
    you can check with LIST BACKUP OF DATABASE
    to view all the backups that you did...
    and you can also use REPORT NEED BACKUP
    to check whether u excluded anything to take backup..

    Hi

    For each of the backup pieces that belong to the backupset 315 try doing this

    Code:
    catalog backuppiece 'E:\BACKUP\FULLBCKP_OCT10\DB_9TIU5J2G_1_317'
    and then try the list backup summary command

    also post all your rman configuration parameters

    using show configuration command at rman prompt

    regards
    Hrishy

    Hi

    setting the retention policy is site specific and what SLA requirements you have with your application team.It cannot be good or bad its simply site specific

    For retention records set in the controlfile the default is 7 days.
    Beware of setting this to a large value as in some case due to space issues in the controlfile the records are over written.

    To the question of why it suddenly showing the backupsets from 16th oct you need to run the crosscheck backup command again to see there was some different retention policy and that cause the earlier backup of 14th oct to expire.

    You can also run the list expired backups to see if those 14th oct backups are showing up as expired ones

    Cut and paste the output of
    list expired and list obsolete commands from RMAN prompt

    regards
    Hrishy

    Hi,
    1.
    RMAN> report obsolete;

    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-03002: failure of report command at 10/30/2007 16:50:52
    RMAN-06525: RMAN retention policy is set to none

    2.
    RMAN> list expired backup;

    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog

    ... it shows nothing.All backups are physicaly present in the destination.

    TIA,
