install Oracle 10g R2 on AIX p5
Hi Dear Friends,
I am installing Oracle 10g on AIX P5 server, which has previously Oracle 9i
installed using oracle user. I want to use another user oracle2 for the 10g
with different oracle home dir, so I wont mess up the 9i.
The docs in 10g recommended that the the install group is "oinstall"
but the previous installed 9i has the following entry in the /etc/oraInst.loc :
inventory_loc=/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory
inst_group=dba
Do I need to overwrite this entry for my 10g?
Thanks a lot

why not use just one user, why do you think it will 'mess up' 9i
-
so I dont need to change the inst_group=dba to oinstall? as what is
recommended?
My other reason to use another oracle user is that the .profile of oracle (9i)
contains lengthy and complicated shell scripts. How do I mixed my scripts
settings for my 10g profile?
Thanks

open a SR and ask support so if you screwed up at least you dont have to tell your boss you were adviced on an internet forum
-
I will use now same oracle user for my 10g but with different oracle home and
oracle_base? So if my 9i oracle_home is /u01/app/oracle/product/9i will it be ok
if my oracle_home for 10g is /u02/app/oracle/product/10g?
thanks a lot

course it will, do you really not know anything about anything?
-
Of course dear, what about this OFA complaint thing....I just hate this unix installation, its not like windoz so easy and user friendly Do you agree that Unix performs better than windoz given the same processor power and memory?

everyone's got limitations, obviously yours is higer than us, in that case I know people who work hard to improve and reduce their limitations
which you could do instead of asking around
-
Im sorry dear...i didnt mean to hurt ur feellings
....Im running ./runInstaller now....
...Checking Installer Requirements....
...Checking OS Version : FAILED >>>must be 5200
But when I checked my OS
# oslevel -r
5300-03
Where do I edit the installer tp bypass this OS requirement?
Thanks a lot

Oracle 10g is not supposed to be installed on AIX 5.3 but you can try...
runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
