Thread: Locally managed tablespaces

    I have to create a new a database soon and I'm planning using for the first time, the "locally managed tablespaces" feature for some or all of my new tablespaces.

    I heard that the extent size must be a multiple of your DB_BLOCK_SIZE. My block size value is 8M.

    My question is: How do I know if I should create my tablespace with uniform extent of 1M, or 2M, or 4M...
    What need to be consider when comes time to set these values?

    There is a good article on Locally Managed Tablespaces on the Nov/Dec issue of the Oracle magazine. I suggest you check it out on the website.

    howly Oracle supports 8MB blocks...? I thought 64K was pretty big already

    linda was asking about which edition ? The magazine is bimonthly. Metoo interested. Spent 5 to 10 minute to find...and couldn't find.

    He did not specify the year, but I think it is self understandable - 2000. I just went to the Oramag web site and have found out that the link to this isue has not been published yet in the "Archives" section. However it is available on the following url:
