Cross platform Migration-Oracle 8.1.7 on z/os to Oracle 10G on AIX

We are in process of migrating the Oracle Database from 8.1.7 on z/os platform to Oracle 10G on AIX platform?

I have searched the forum but I am unable to get the right
    document or write-ups on this.

Could anyone please suggest the best methodology for this cross platform migration?

    Thanks in advance.

yes, export import is your choice

there are more fancy methods but the above would be the simplest for your current knowledge

Theoretically u can even desc each table of zOS and then create it on AIX then reenter the data by hand :-)
The only option however, working in the real world is exp/imp
    Serious
U can create a db link from the AIX and use create as select.
Also u can use COPY command of the SQL Plus ( do not ask me how, I have just know that exists somewhere there)

    Good Luck

Would transportable tablespace be an option or does the Oracle version have to be the same?

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/dep...tdocs/xtts.htm

It can cross platforms in 10g.
And it will save time if this is a big database.
I remember when this place was cool.

Mr. Hanky, in 8.1.7 cross-platform TS transportation is not permitted
