    Instance Startup

    hi,

i have 2 instance oracle 8.1.7, one as standby and the second as working normally on Unix True64. i shut the second one, but i'm not able to re-start it.
each time i try to connect as for the second instance, it connects always to the fst one, kowing that it ask me for passwd of the second one.
do i have to reboot the server?

    thanks in advance.

have you set the right ORACLE_SID?

    the oracle_sid was well set.
i successfully restart-it, if you perform a ps -ef |grep ora you will find that some oracle processes are still running such as chkpoint... so i prefered to shutdown the standby dbm and perform a clean reboot for the server.
then, it was successfully restarted again with no error.

Does your standby have the same name? Then you have to use lock_name_space and set it to something different. It makes sense to do it on standby database.
