    Cannot start oracle database

    Hi everyone, I tried to startup my oracle database via sqlplus and got this error:

    SQL*Plus: Release 10.1.0.4.0 - Production on Thu Apr 19 17:31:07 2007

    Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.

    SQL> connect / as sysdba
    ERROR:
    ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified

    SQL> exit
    $ env |grep NLS_LANG
    NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1

    I checked my NLS_LANG and it's okay. I tried to search for this error on the web but couldn't find any good answer. Can you please help me?

    Thanks

    On Google.com:

    Results 1 - 10 of about 10,800 for "ORA-12705"

    Surely one of the 10,800 results has your answer??

    Try disabling in your env and login to your database and check the correct setting. Then you may try setting the env.

    Did you initialize the env before login?
