    Hi,

Standby server is just another instance of the main database. You have to create a standby controlfile of the main database and then mount the standby database in mount standby mode. Then it will accept all the logs generated on the main database and roll forward.

If you are using this for a disaster recovery scenario, then you need to invest in additional hardware, preferably another site and the necessary network bandwidth to move the logs across. Depending on the criticality you may also resort to tape backup and restore of logs.

You need limited hardware resource to keep it rolling forward as only commited transactions are applied to the database.
