    what's ur O.S.? version?

    /mnt are suppose to be for media device other than disk device.

    /mnt/db/oracle/oradata is actually from disk device?

    your error says that the file specified can't be seen by your db's controlfile.

    i have seen your earlier post and your STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT is set to AUTO. The data file should be automatically copied to the standby db when all log files(during the creation of datafile in primary db server) are archive.

    I have created file in primary and that (isdata11.dbf ) file was not automatically created in standby so i copied to standby using scp.
    So when i applied archive files to standby time-stamp not changed in isdata11.dbf file.So i tried to create that file in standby but it showed error.

    TRY SETTING:
    alter system set standby_file_management='manual';

    THEN DO THE DATAFILE thing.

    Read This:

    Adding a Tablespace and a Datafile When STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT Is Set to AUTO
    The following example shows the steps required to add a new datafile to the primary and standby databases when the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter is set to AUTO.

    1. Add a new tablespace to the primary database:
    SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE new_ts DATAFILE 't_db2.dbf'
    2> SIZE 1m AUTOEXTEND ON MAXSIZE UNLIMITED;
    2. Archive the current redo log so it will get copied to the standby database:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT;

    3. Verify that the new datafile was added to the primary database:
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
    NAME
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    F:\ORACLE\ORADATA\FNO\t_db1.dbf
    F:\ORACLE\ORADATA\FNO\t_db2.dbf
    4. Verify that the new datafile was added to the standby database:
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
    NAME
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    F:\ORACLE\ORADATA\FNO\t_db1.dbf
    F:\ORACLE\ORADATA\FNO\t_db2.dbf

    rey.. I have done that already.,but it shows the same problem,refer my previous post in this thread.

    I have added datafile in primary and then i checked in standby.It doesn't added automatically so i did manually,but that datafile status shows offline.So,i try to create in standby..,So that control file will be updated and it will take that datafile which i copied from primary.

    right now iam applying archive files to standby,it is working but if i try to open in read only it shows following problem.

    SQL> alter database open read only;
    alter database open read only
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-16004: backup database requires recovery
    ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/mnt/db/oracle/oradata/USDB/system01.dbf'

    pls say whether i can rectify or better i could recreate standby.
