    Angry Recovery error

    hi,


    I am receiving followiing error when
    i am trying to recover my database.

    I am on Windodws 2000 plateform.
    using oracle 8.1.7.




    SVRMGR> recover database until cancel
    ORA-00279: change 161172873 generated at 02/01/2007 15:22:26 needed for thread

    ORA-00289: suggestion : C:\ARCHIEVE\ORA8IT001S80081.ARC
    ORA-00280: change 161172873 for thread 1 is in sequence #380081
    Specify log: {=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}

    ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
    ORA-01115: IO error reading block from file 2 (block # 9709)
    ORA-01110: data file 2: 'M:\ERP_DATABASE\RBS01.DBF'
    ORA-27069: skgfdisp: attempt to do I/O beyond the range of the file
    OSD-04026: Invalid parameter passed.
    O/S-Error: (OS 9709) A CNAME record already exists for given name.
    SVRMGR>


    further i found following message in alert log file

    kcrrga: Warning. Log sequence in archive filename wrapped
    to fix length as indicated by %S in LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT.
    Old log archive with same name might be overwritten.
    ORA-279 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE RECOVER database until cancel

    How big is your datafile?
    If it is over 4G then KINDLY log a service request with Oracle

    Yes datafile size is more than 4G.
    But is was running successfully
    before rbs01.dbf corrupted.

    looks like a DNS error

    Well, that could be a problem with 8.1.7 on win 2000. Managing more than 4 GB on 32 bit machine is tricky since 32 bits can addess only 4GB.
    I have had such case when writing over the 4 GB works, but reading - does not :-(
    I belive you should log an SR although 8.1.7 is desuported

    It is not clear about
    * Can not recover more than 4GB? or
    * 4GB data file not work on w2k/oracle 8.1.7 combinition?
