    Creating tablespaces over a network

    Hi all,

    I have a question:

Is it possible for one to create a tablespace over a network (i.e a mapped drive on windows)? A situation has arisen where extra space is needed to load more info into the db. There is spare space on another server but i need to know if it is possible techinally to achieve this? Any help will be much appreciated. We are running on a Windows platform.

    Thanks in advance,
    Chucks

yes - dont expect it to perform very well though.

If its windows I believe there are some special options you need to use with networked storage

In general Oracle does not supports that. It is possible but really needs some specia options AND IS NOT SUPPORTED BY ORACLE.
Oracle supports only network mapping protocols, which supports write confirmation (i.e. when the server sends a write request, the protocol should return a confirmation that it is done) This is not the case however with windows mapped drives and NFS mapped drives.
Maybe you should look for some solution usnig the iSCSI protocol
Search metalink and I belive you'll find details about that

    Regards
    Boris
