    Question Recovery on missing datafile.....

    Hello,
Using a production hotback copy created a new development database with a different name. During the development database creation forgot to mention one datafile ( two datafiles for tablespace DEV) in the new controlfile.

Applied the archive logs, redo logs and now the database is up and runnning. The datafile is showing as MISSING003.dbf and needs recovery.

I am able to start the start and shutdown the database.

How to restore the missing datafile? and recover?

    Many Thanks,

There are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and benchmarks...

Unix is user friendly. It's just very particular about who it's friends are.

    1) Backup the control file to trace (of development database ORADEV)
    2) shutdown the db and copy the missing datafile to its destination
    3) Open the controlfile trace and you will find that one the datafile name is given as missing100....
    4) Change that name to the name of the datafile you juct copied(with path of course). The datafile is copied from (ORAPROD)
    5) Recreate the controlfile (backup the original one first )

While recreating the controlfile(with different database name ORADEV).

create control file failed because the file header is different ....

    Many Thanks,

Why not to repeat the whole process again with the right datafiles references in place?
One, who thinks that the other one who thinks that know and does not know, does not know either!

create control file failed because the file header is different ....
Natural, since you chaned the dbname after cloning. In this case you have to restart the whole procedure.
