I have two question.
My database was down and I had to reboot it back. what are the few things I need to see first and analyze what went wrong in database so that it became slower and slower. Once database was shut down but still the uptime on unix was showing the same when database was slow. I dont know why the jptime on unix remained the same even after database was shut down.
Did you look into alert_.log file for the root cause?
becuase uptime is the uptime of the server, not of the database
yes but it didnt show up anything. Alert log file look normal how it is everyday.
Could you please elaborate the above statement?

How was the database brought down? Did you do it normally or it crashed?
There are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and benchmarks...
Unix is user friendly. It's just very particular about who it's friends are.

shutdown immediate ? or Crashed.
You had to reboot it back ? Again, what, do you mean to say you reboot the Server, correct me if i am wrong.
In case you reboot the Server, the uptime is misleading you, if not it is correct as the DB Server was running and only the instance was down.
Paste the exceprts from Alert_SID.log just before and after the time all this happened
