What are the steps to recover the control file from a total lose?

I'm wondering how do one recover/recreate the controll file from a total lose?

One way is to take it from backup provided nothing changed since the backup.

Or, create it by specifying the correct paths of all the logfiles, datafiles.

It should work.

Do you have controlfile thats backed up to trace/some other location by any chance. I request my dba team to make a habbit of it whenever they do some maintenance/backups work. It helps a lot...
