    column formatting

    Is there a way to have the complete column name returned without specifically specifying "col colum_name format .." by a select statement.

    The select statement is not what returns the column names -- that is done by the application, and in this case I'm guessing that you mean SQL*Plus.

    What you might consider is loading up your glogin file with the required column format settings.
