recovering database and it's asking for a archieve log not available
I am trying to recover a 9i database. I first got the database to a mounted state. then executed recover database;
which returned the following messages
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-01610: recovery using the BACKUP CONTROLFILE option must be done
so then I executed recover database using backup controlfile;
ORA-00279: change 418307027 generated at 08/28/2006 19:25:25 needed for thread
1
ORA-00289: suggestion : E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\PSSYS1\ARCHIVEARC02382.001
ORA-00280: change 418307027 for thread 1 is in sequence #2382
Specify log: {=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
My archieve logs go up to ARCHIVEARC02381.001
so I typed cancle and got this
Media recovery cancelled.
Could anyone help me this is my forst time I am trying this?

What errors caused the recovery session to fail the first time around?

Did you try to open the database?

You'll probably need to open resetlogs;

If you're recovering from a PIT backup of another database, switch logs on the original db and I'll bet it'll create the archived log file it's asking for. Apply it, then resetlogs.
Otherwise, you're screwed.

What are you recovering from?
If the online redo logs are still available, you could specify the name of one of the redo logs when prompted for ARCHIVEARC02382.001. If the redo logs aren't available, you'll have to OPEN RESETLOGS as marist89 indicated. If you OPEN RESETLOGS, you'll want to get a backup ASAP.

That was it, I guess I had a momentary brain freeze, I thought that because it was asking for an archieve log I had to give it an archieve log, I just applied the lates redolog and was up and running. Thanks for the help.
