    Patching a Standby DB

    Hi all,

I have to patch our live 9201 db to 9207. We have a standby counterpart to. We need to patch the standby db too. Here is our plan of action:

1/ Patch live db and run upgrade scripts
2/ Take down standby and patch JUST the binaries
3/ Start the standby db in mount state
4/ Apply redo logs from live to standby db (this will save from running update scripts on the standby db as the redo from live will contain all the info to update standby)

Is this plan feaisable? Or is there a documented plan to patch standby databases? If so, could anyone pls let me know.

    Thanks in advance,
    Chucks

    Almost, but not quite!

It will work, but make sure that primary and standby are in sync , last log generated before patch is applied to the standby .
In fact, you can not run upgrade scripts in the standby db, it requires db to be in the open mode!
One, who thinks that the other one who thinks that know and does not know, does not know either!

    1) TAKE BACKUP

    2) Patch development (test) first and test it to see if there are any issues.

Do you have a test box?

Going straight into producion does not sound like a great idea to me.
I remember when this place was cool.
