Oracle8i release 2(8.1.6)
Sun Solaries 2.8
I am designing a huge databse.
The database size will grow upto be 4 terabytes,
we r having EMC disk storage and sun E6500 machine.
So what is recommended oracle datafile size for such a
huge database for better performance ?

I don't know about limitations on the latest version of Solaris thast 2.8, but 2GB is limit on Solaris 2.6. You might need to check with vendor or server administator.

Solaris 8 has a 64 bit API which allows large file sizes. Set the large file option on the OS. You will now able able to have files of upto 1 Terabyte. Refer to note #62409.1 on Metalink for details.

I found this document on Metalink which gives enough information that you need. If OS supports thats not enough and You have other limitations to consider from Oracle and backups perspective. Here you go:
